I have my photos set to 'download and keep originals'. I do this because when I had it set to 'optimize storage' I had problems. The cloud uploaded my pictures and videos and left only a thumbnail on my device. I share my AT&T plan with two others and we can use up to 20GB before overage charges. After the cloud uploaded my pictures I blew threw the 20GB monthly cap in my AT&T plan quickly because I was working with my videos on a daily basis.

I switched back to 'download and keep originals' and stopped using large amounts of data by streaming my videos.

Great, .......but

The problem is that I have almost no space left on my phone. I have a 5C with 16GB available. I purchased more room in the cloud (43GB available) and what I'd like to do is store some of my videos in the cloud and not have them on my phone.

If I set it to optimize it gets expensive quickly.

Photos (app) Preferences iCloud - select Download Originals to this Mac. However, if this is general setting is not selected, you can download originals to an album by right clicking the album and selecting Download Originals to this Mac. Settings Photos & Camera - select Download and Keep Originals.
